Terms of Service

Effective Date: August 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms & Open Source Nature

By downloading, building, or utilizing the Sakayori Music application ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Sakayori Music is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) project distributed under the GPL-3.0 License (or equivalent open-source license as specified in the repository).

The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The developers, contributors, and maintainers of Sakayori Music hold no responsibility for how you choose to use the application.

2. Third-Party Services and API Scraping

Sakayori Music acts primarily as a custom, graphical client that interacts with third-party APIs (including but not limited to YouTube Music, Kugou, Last.fm, Shazam, and Discord).

  • No Affiliation: Sakayori Music is an independent project and is not affiliated, authorized, maintained, sponsored, or endorsed by Google LLC, YouTube, Discord, Apple, or Tencent.
  • API Limits: The application may reverse-engineer or scrape endpoints (e.g., using `zemer-cipher` for YouTube streams) to provide its functionality. You agree that you are solely responsible for ensuring that your usage of the Software does not violate the Terms of Service of those respective third-party platforms.
  • Account Risk: If you choose to log in with your Google or YouTube account, you accept all risks associated with using unofficial third-party clients, including the potential restriction or termination of your account by the service provider.

3. User Conduct and Fair Use

While the Software allows for the downloading and offline caching of media streams, it is intended strictly for personal, non-commercial use.

You agree not to use Sakayori Music to pirate, distribute, or monetize copyrighted material. The ability to cache audio files is provided for bandwidth conservation and offline listening convenience, not as a tool for mass copyright infringement. The maintainers of Sakayori Music do not host any of the audio content accessed through the application.

4. Modifications and Forks

As open-source software, you are free to fork, modify, and distribute your own version of Sakayori Music, provided you comply with the underlying repository license. However, if you distribute a modified version:

  • You must distinctly rename the application to avoid confusion with the official Sakayori Music project.
  • You may not use the official API keys, Discord App IDs, or infrastructure (such as official metroserver instances) provided in the main repository for your distributed fork without permission.

5. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort or otherwise, arising from, out of or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.

This includes, but is not limited to: loss of data, hardware damage (e.g., from extreme volume or equalizer settings), account bans from third-party services, or exposure to inappropriate content retrieved from public APIs.
