FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Sakayori Music free?

Yes. Sakayori Music is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license. No subscriptions, no ads, and no locked features.

Do I need a YouTube Music subscription?

No. You can search, stream, and build your library without one. Signing in with your Google account is optional, and it syncs your own playlists, liked songs, and history from YouTube Music.

Which devices are supported?

Sakayori Music is an Android app for phones and tablets. You can download the latest APK from the button at the top of this page, or from GitHub Releases.

Can I download songs to listen offline?

Yes. Downloaded songs are kept as a playback cache in the app's private storage, so they play offline inside the app. They are not saved as regular audio files that can be copied out of the app.

What audio quality does it stream?

Streams play at the best quality YouTube provides for each track, up to 160 kbps Opus. In Player settings you can also turn on “Prefer lossless”: the app keeps playing the normal stream while it checks for a matching FLAC version in the background, and switches to it when one is found. You can set your own Lossless API URL in the same settings screen.

What is Listen Together?

Listen Together lets you host a private session and listen in sync with other people. Everyone in the session hears the same track at the same time, and play, pause, and track changes stay in sync for the whole group.

Does Sakayori Music collect my data?

No. Sakayori Music is local-first: it does not run analytics or tracking, and your library and playback data stay on your device. The Privacy Policy explains what each connected service receives.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Open an issue on GitHub. That is where bugs and feature requests are tracked.
